Andres

Andres is a 15-year-old from Ecuador diagnosed with juvenile angiofibroma, a rare, highly vascular, histologically benign, but locally-invasive tumor. Although not able to be seen in photographs, his tumor was rapidly advancing to his brain and optic canal. Immediate surgery was necessary.  Because his parents did not have sufficient economic resources to pay, CFC was contacted and paid the $19,352.50 cost for this crucial surgery.

In order to reduce the risk of hemorrhage during the operation, an embolization was done at Jackson Memorial Hospital the day before the surgery.

On July 13, 2009, plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. S. Anthony Wolfe and neurosurgeon Dr. Glenn Morrison performed surgery on Andres at Miami Children’s Hospital.

On July 17, 2009, a second surgery was performed after evidence of the mass was still present.
